Scharnhauser Park — Ostfildern's Model Neighbourhood
The Scharnhauser Park is a district of Ostfildern that emerged in the 1990s, southeast of Stuttgart. It was built on the site of a former US military base and was designed as a model neighbourhood based on principles of ecological urban planning — energy-efficient buildings, social housing, many green spaces, a mobility concept with the U7 tram line. Today, around 9,000 people live here in a multicultural neighbourhood.
"Die SchaPanesen e.V." — 25 Years of Neighbourhood Work
The community association "Die SchaPanesen e.V." — humorously derived from the district's name — has been the driving force behind community work since the district's founding. In 2026, it celebrates its 25th anniversary. The neighbourhood festival "SchaPa feiert" is its central annual event and, in 2026, also the anniversary celebration.
July 12, 2026 — Baumhain as Festival Scenery
The festival takes place on Saturday, July 12, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 11:00 PM in the Baumhain between Sophie-Scholl-Haus and Stadthaus — a central, well-shaded square in the district. The Sophie-Scholl-Haus is the community centre and meeting place, and the Stadthaus is the central administration of Scharnhauser Park. Together with the Baumhain, they form the social heart of the district.
Colourful Programme — Encounters and Diversity
The programme is guided by the theme "Colourful festival of encounters and diversity." Specifically: Stage programme with music from the multicultural neighbourhood (often African, Turkish, Italian, German acts), dance groups from schools and initiatives. Hands-on activities for young and old — drumming workshops, children's craft stations, dance classes, games. Culinary offerings from local restaurants, food stalls, and associations — from Swabian Maultaschen to Ethiopian Injera, Turkish Mezze, and Italian Pizza.
Organisers and Partners
The organisers are "Die SchaPanesen e.V." as the main body and the Children and Youth Centre (KiJu) Ostfildern e.V. The festival is supported by the City of Ostfildern, local businesses, schools, and volunteer initiatives. 2026 will be celebrated with special effort — the 25th anniversary will shape the programme.
