Family-friendly wine hike with six tasting stations through the steep vineyards on the Lenzenberg — Stuttgart East
Hedelfingen and Rohracker are two eastern districts of Stuttgart with a long tradition of vineyards. The steep slopes around the Lenzenberg — one of the characteristic Stuttgart vineyard landscapes — have been cultivated for centuries, with the slopes terraced by painstakingly constructed dry stone walls. Every second Sunday in May, the Weingärtnergenossenschaft Hedelfingen-Rohracker eG (Hedelfingen-Rohracker Winegrowers' Cooperative) uses these slopes for a wine hike — on May 10, 2026, from 11 AM to 6 PM.
Six tasting stations are spread along the hiking route through the vineyards. At each station, wines and sparkling wines from Hedelfingen and Rohracker are served — Trollinger, Lemberger, Schwarzriesling, Riesling, Weißburgunder, as well as in-house sparkling wines and special selections. Hot and cold food accompany the tasting stations — Maultaschen, sausage platters, cheese, salads, Vesper (a traditional snack).
The hiking route leads through the steep vineyards on the Lenzenberg with iconic views: the Neckar valley on one side, the Tiefenbach valley and Dürrbach valley on the other, and in the distance, the heights of the Swabian Jura. The route can be flexibly designed — start in the morning or afternoon, reverse the order of the stations. Start at the Emma-Reichle-Heim (Rohrackerstraße 172), end at the historic Kelter Hedelfingen (Fruchtstraße 2), where the day concludes with a relaxed atmosphere.
With around 400 hectares of cultivated vineyards, Stuttgart is one of Germany's most unusual urban wine-growing areas — wine with a district character, right in the middle of a major city. Hedelfingen and Rohracker in the Hedelfingen district on the eastern outskirts are among Stuttgart's most traditional wine-growing areas. The Weingärtnergenossenschaft Hedelfingen-Rohracker eG unites the local winegrowers, vinifies their grapes together, and markets them under its own name — a classic South German cooperative winery, which the wine hike highlights.
The Hedelfingen-Rohracker Winegrowers' Cooperative organizes the 2026 Weinwandertag as a family-friendly event: six tasting stations are spread along the hiking route through the steep vineyards on the Lenzenberg. Each station offers wines and sparkling wines from their own vinification — Trollinger, Lemberger, Schwarzriesling, Riesling, and Weißburgunder as main varieties, plus sparkling wine and individual selection wines.
The hike is not strictly linear: visitors can start in Rohracker (start at Emma-Reichle-Heim, 11 AM) or in Hedelfingen (destination at the Kelter, 6 PM) and hike through the stations in their own order. Hot and cold dishes — Maultaschen, Vesper, sausages, salads — are served at the stations, making it a relaxed wine-hiking day with outdoor stops.
Free admission. Tasting glass with deposit at the start. Wine tasting (0.1L) typically €2.00–€3.50 per variety, sparkling wine €2.50–€4.00, food €5–€14 depending on the station.
Public transport is highly recommended: Take U-Bahn line U9 or U13 to the Hedelfingen stop, then a short walk to the Kelter Hedelfingen (destination) or continue by bus to Rohracker (start). Alternatively, take the S1 train to Obertürkheim, then bus 62 to Rohrackerstraße. By car via the B 10/B 27, parking is limited — public transport is expressly preferred.
Sunday, May 10, 2026, 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Start at Emma-Reichle-Heim (Rohrackerstraße 172, 70329 Stuttgart-Rohracker), destination at Kelter Hedelfingen (Fruchtstraße 2). Hiking in both directions is possible, with individual route planning across the six tasting stations.
