Carnival season of the Satow Carnival Club SATOWIA e.V. in the multi-purpose hall by the Satow Lake
Carnival is commonly associated with the Rhineland – but the festive activities also have their firm strongholds in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The Satow Carnival Club SATOWIA e.V. has been organizing carnival seasons for over five decades and, with almost 300 active members, is one of the largest carnival clubs in Northern Germany. The 56th season falls in February 2026.
A SATOWIA season is more than just a single evening: it includes several gala sessions for adults, a children's and youth carnival, and a closing gala. The programmes offer the classic carnival mix of dance troupes, singing performances, humorous satirical speeches (Büttenreden), and elaborate show acts – all self-produced by the club members. Each season has its own theme; the 55th season in 2025 celebrated under the title “With the Dream Ship at SKV – Full Speed Ahead with Satow Radau!”.
SATOWIA's strength lies in its cross-generational commitment: from kindergarten children to seniors, members work together on stage. Around 2,000 spectators attend the events of a season. The club sees itself as an integral part of community life in Satow – the season opening with the handover of the keys at the town hall is a public event in the town every year.
The venue is the multi-purpose hall by the Satow Lake. Satow is located in the Rostock district in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, easily accessible between the Hanseatic city of Rostock and the Baltic coast. During the carnival season, the hall is transformed into a festively decorated ballroom – the meeting point for everyone who wants to experience a bit of Rhineland joie de vivre in the North German February.
With the 56th carnival season, SATOWIA e.V. continues its long tradition. Almost 300 performers, from kindergarten to retirement age, present a programme of dance troupes, singing, satirical speeches (Büttenreden), and show acts on the stage of the festively decorated multi-purpose hall by the Satow Lake. Around 2,000 spectators are expected over the season.
Weiberfastnacht on February 12, 2026, is a highlight of the season and is linked to the children's and youth carnival. Thus, the programme is consciously aimed at the youngest carnival-goers.
