Profile

The Rostock Medieval Spectacle is one of the largest living history medieval events on the Mecklenburg Baltic coast. Since 2023, the organizer Vehi Mercatus invites visitors annually for three days to the festival meadow and paths of the IGA Park on the Warnow riverbank.

Programmatic Focus

Approximately 85 market stalls, 14 historical encampments, two stages, minstrels, jesters, fire artists, and bands ensure medieval hustle and bustle around the clock. Knight tournaments, show combat groups, and military encampments offer insights into the warfare and camp life of the 12th to 15th centuries, while craftsmen demonstrate historical techniques from blacksmithing and felting to basket weaving. Taverns, mead, suckling pig, and knightly snacks complement the culinary offerings.

Local Context

The IGA Park in Schmarl, with its spacious meadows and location on the Warnow riverbank, is the ideal venue: plenty of space for encampments, market lanes, and equestrian tournaments. The spectacle complements Rostock's spring program between the Easter Market and Pentecost Market in the city harbor.
