Swabian Championships in Mertingen — High-Level Equestrian Sport

Anyone involved in Bavarian-Swabian equestrian sport knows the Hagenmühle riding facility in Mertingen. The Riding and Driving Club Donauwörth-Mertingen e.V. hosts official tournaments here several times a year — the highlight being the Swabian Championships under the patronage of VRF Schwaben.

Mertingen in the Donau-Ries District

Mertingen is located in the Donau-Ries district in the state of Bavaria, about 5 km north of Donauwörth, between the Lech and Danube rivers. The municipality with almost 4,000 inhabitants benefits from an active club structure — RFV Donauwörth-Mertingen is one of the largest riding clubs in the district and operates a complete club facility at Hagenmühle with an indoor arena, outdoor arenas, and cross-country routes.

What's on the Program at the Swabian Championship

The VRF Schwaben (Association for Riding, Driving, and Vaulting Swabia) awards its Swabian titles at changing venues. Mertingen is a regular host — mostly in the field of eventing, but also classic disciplines such as:

• Dressage — Classes according to difficulty level (E, A, L, M)
• Show Jumping — Style jumping and jumping competitions
• Eventing — Combination of dressage, cross-country ride, and show jumping

Hagenmühle offers both the dressage and show jumping arenas as well as the terrain for the eventing course.

Tournament Weekend at Hagenmühle

The Swabian Championship traditionally spans an entire weekend (Saturday + Sunday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM). Competitions for junior, young rider, and adult classes are spread over the two days. The tournament is freely accessible to spectators — the facility has catering provided by the club.

Embedded in Swabian Equestrian Sport

RFV Donauwörth-Mertingen is a regular participant among Swabian riding clubs that shape the regional equestrian season. Successfully confirmed by the recent Swabian Eventing Championship 2023 in Mertingen, where Stefanie Lahmer won the title in the rider classification.
