Three-day Easter street festival on Schmiljanstraße in Berlin-Friedenau
Schmiljanstraße connects two of the central squares in Berlin's Friedenau district: Kaisereiche and Friedrich-Wilhelm-Platz. For the three days over Easter, this section is converted into an open street festival: traffic is closed, a stage is set up, and stalls are lined up. This format has been a reliable spring event in Friedenau for years and is one of Berlin's smaller, neighborhood-focused district festivals.
Live music is performed on the Schmiljanstraße stage from noon every day. Genres range from pop, folk, Schlager, acoustic sets, and jazz. The market stalls offer arts and crafts, Easter decorations, and small gift ideas, along with a variety of food stalls — bratwurst, crêpes, vegetarian bowls, Berliner currywurst. Children can enjoy face painting, small carousels, and toy stands. Mulled wine and spring cocktails create the evening atmosphere.
Friedenau was founded at the end of the 19th century as a villa colony and is one of Berlin's best-preserved Gründerzeit districts, now part of the Tempelhof-Schöneberg borough. It is known for its streetscapes with front gardens, reform-era housing estates, and the cemetery and church architecture of the early 20th century. The Easter festival on Schmiljanstraße is precisely the format that matches this neighborhood character — not a mass event, but a neighborhood festival with a stage.
Three days of spring festival on Easter Saturday, Easter Sunday, and Easter Monday. The stage runs from noon on all festival days with live music (pop, folk, Schlager, acoustic), and the stalls are open until the evening. The organizer is the Friedenau district management in cooperation with local associations and the Friedenau business community.
