The first funfair of the year on Kröpeliner Straße
The Rostock Easter Market traditionally marks the first big funfair of the year in the Hanseatic city. When it opens its gates, it's clear: spring has arrived. The market mile stretches from the Neuer Markt across Kröpeliner Straße and Universitätsplatz to the medieval Kröpeliner Tor — right through the brick Gothic city center.
Around two dozen colorfully decorated stalls form a strolling mile, where you can discover spices, herbs, regional honey from beekeepers, wooden crafts, spirits, homemade advocaat, Easter bouquets and decorations, jewelry, textiles, and leather goods. For culinary delights, it's worth looking out for North German specialties — from smoked fish to Rostock sausage to grilled delicacies.
Several rides, a large walk-through attraction, and classic game stalls ensure good spirits for young and old. A special highlight is a giant Easter egg that children can paint. The Easter Bunny also makes personal appearances on several days — a highlight for the youngest visitors.
The Easter Market also includes a showman's service on Easter Monday — a tradition that demonstrates the close connection between funfairs and the church year in the Hanseatic city. The market thus combines spring-like market activities with living customs.
From March 27 to April 12, 2026, the Rostock Easter Market opens the funfair season of the Hanseatic city. On the market mile from Neuer Markt across Kröpeliner Straße and Universitätsplatz to Kröpeliner Tor, a colorfully decorated spring landscape is created. A strolling mile with around two dozen stalls, nine rides, a large walk-through attraction, and classic game stalls characterize the scene. The market remains closed on Good Friday.
Admission to the Easter Market is free. Rides, game stalls, and food and drink are subject to charges.
Monday to Thursday 10:00 AM–7:00 PM, Friday and Saturday 10:00 AM–8:00 PM, Sunday 11:30 AM–7:00 PM. The market is closed on Good Friday.
The city center is optimally accessible by tram and bus (stops Neuer Markt, Universität, Kröpeliner Tor). Arrive by train at Rostock Hauptbahnhof, then take the tram to the city center.
Families should head to the location of the giant Easter egg and inquire about the days the Easter Bunny will make personal appearances.
