The Rostock Christmas Market is quite something: with a length of over three kilometers, it is considered the largest Christmas market in Northern Germany. It stretches across the historic city center of the Hanseatic city — from the Neuer Markt through Kröpeliner Straße, Universitätsplatz, and Breite Straße to the Kröpeliner-Tor-Vorplatz and the Fischerbastion. More than 300 showmen, traders, and restaurateurs from several countries participate in the market. The offerings range from regional arts and crafts and Christmas decorations to culinary specialties — and of course, mulled wine, candied almonds, and Northern German delicacies. Numerous amusement rides ensure that the funfair character is not neglected.

Above it all towers a 34-meter-high Ferris wheel, offering views over the festively illuminated old town. Towering Christmas trees, a fairy tale forest, and a fairy tale stage shape the cityscape during Advent. Those who enjoy history can visit the Historical Christmas Market at the Kloster zum Heiligen Kreuz, which offers a quieter, medieval-inspired atmosphere.
