Rosenfest — the Blossom Day in Westfalenpark
When the roses are in full bloom in June, Westfalenpark Dortmund celebrates the „Queen of Flowers“. On June 14, 2026, the traditional Rosenfest will take place in the German Rosarium — one of the largest and most beautiful rose gardens in Europe — offering a market, culinary delights, and educational activities centered around the rose.
What to See, Buy, and Experience
The market brings together vendors and themes related to the rose:
- Rose plants of various varieties — from classics to new breeds
- Natural cosmetics made from rose oil — creams, soaps, perfume
- Herbs and medicinal plants from regional nurseries
- Rose pastries, rose pralines, rose jam
- Handicrafts with rose motifs
Guided Tours through the Rosarium
Three guided tours through the German Rosarium are on the program:
- 10:00 AM — General tour through the rose garden
- 2:00 PM — Scent Tour (focusing on the different rose scents)
- 3:00 PM — Botanical tour with historical varieties
Family Program in the Regenbogenhaus
For children, the Regenbogenhaus offers creative workshops (crafting roses, pressing flowers) and a dance program. The Westfalenpark's cable car operates from 1:00 PM to 5:30 PM, offering panoramic views over the Rosarium.
German Rosarium — Rose World Heritage in Dortmund
The German Rosarium in Westfalenpark was established in 1969 and is among the three most important rose collections worldwide (alongside Sangerhausen and Lyon). It showcases over 3,000 rose varieties across approximately 6 hectares — historical, modern, wild, and experimental breeds. This makes Dortmund one of Europe's rose capitals, a fact that is not widely known outside of specialist circles.
Westfalenpark — Dortmund's Green Heart
The Westfalenpark, covering 70 hectares, is Dortmund's most important city park. With the Florianturm (218 m), the See Bühne (stage on the water), the water playground, the Rosarium, and countless themed gardens, it is one of Germany's largest city parks. In addition to the Rosenfest, it hosts the Juicy Beats Festival, the Lichterfest (Festival of Lights), and the PSD Bank Sommerkino (Summer Cinema) — the park is a major festival magnet for the city.
