Three Hours of Neighbourhood, Three Hours of World
On Saturday, May 9, 2026, the accompanying programme "Learning by doing" of the Berliner Stadtmission invites you to the 7th Intercultural Neighbourhood Festival in northern Spandau from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. The venue is the grounds of the Evangelical Church Community in northern Spandau at Wichernstraße 14–21 — in Falkenhagener Feld Ost, a densely populated district in the Spandau borough in the far west of Berlin, where many different communities live.
Stage, Dance, International Cuisine
The festival programme consciously reflects what neighbourhood means in everyday life: a stage with live music from various countries of origin, participatory dance activities, workshops for children and adults, and an international buffet created from contributions by visitors — homemade dishes to share are explicitly welcome. Associations, initiatives, and volunteers from Falkenhagener Feld will introduce themselves.
Learning by Doing
Behind the festival is the accompanying programme of the Berliner Stadtmission, which, based on the principle of "Learning by doing," supports people with migration and refugee backgrounds with navigating authorities, language matters, and administrative tasks. The neighbourhood festival is the annual public anchor for this work: it makes networking in the neighbourhood visible, brings together volunteers and those being supported at one table, and creates low-threshold meeting spaces.
Patronage of the District
District Mayor Frank Bewig is taking over the patronage in 2026, thus placing the festival among official district events. "Community arises where people remain in exchange — especially with different perspectives," Bewig emphasizes. The event is supported content-wise by the Integration department of the Spandau District Office.
Spandau — A Characterful Western Outpost
With nearly 250,000 inhabitants, Spandau is one of Berlin's most populous districts and also the one with the highest proportion of green and water areas. Northern Spandau, around Falkenhagener Feld, Siemensstadt, and Hakenfelde, is considered socially heterogeneous and culturally diverse — this is precisely where the festival focuses. Free admission, no registration required, all generations welcome.
