About Schützenfest Birken-Honigsessen

The Schützenfest Birken-Honigsessen is the annual main festival of the St. Hubertus Marksmen's Brotherhood Birken-Honigsessen 1968 e.V. and will take place in 2026 on the first weekend of August, from Saturday, August 1st, to Monday, August 3rd, 2026, at the Birken-Honigsessen Schützenplatz (fairground). The brotherhood, dedicated to Saint Hubertus of Liège – the patron saint of hunters and marksmen – cultivates an important club tradition in the Wisserland region with this three-day festival. The classic Rhenish Schützenfest program includes the coronation of the new Schützenkönig (King), a festival service, a parade, concerts, and the ceremonial King's Ball. The festival is a fixed date in the region's event calendar.

St. Hubertus Marksmen's Brotherhood Birken-Honigsessen 1968 e.V.

The St. Hubertus Marksmen's Brotherhood Birken-Honigsessen was founded in 1968, celebrating a younger but already well-established club tradition. As the name suggests, the brotherhood is dedicated to Saint Hubertus of Liège, the patron saint of hunters and marksmen, whose feast day is traditionally celebrated on November 3rd. With over 55 years of club history, the brotherhood has preserved the Schützen (marksmen's) customs in the Wisserland.

Birken-Honigsessen — Double Village in the Wisserland

Birken-Honigsessen is a double place name for the two interconnected districts of Birken and Honigsessen in the municipality of Wissen. The close neighborly bond between the two places is also reflected in the joint marksmen's brotherhood that unites both districts and cultivates their traditions.

First Weekend of August as Festival Date

The Schützenfest takes place annually on the first weekend of August — in 2026 from Saturday, August 1st, to Monday, August 3rd. The three festival days span the weekend and offer a packed program of marksmen's traditions and social gatherings.

Program for the Three Festival Days

Saturday begins with the festival opening at the Schützenplatz, followed by the coronation of the new Schützenkönig from the King's shooting competition. Afterwards, the festival tent evening with live music or a DJ set takes place. Sunday features the festival service – the religious-traditional highlight related to the brotherhood's patron – followed by the Schützen parade in full uniform through the districts of Birken and Honigsessen, accompanied by a brass band. The King's Ball on Sunday evening is the festive dance event in honor of the King and Queen. Monday concludes with a Frühschoppen (morning pint) and final social hours.

Marksmen's Traditions in the Wisserland

The Wisserland – the region around the town of Wissen in the north of the Altenkirchen district – is characterized by a dense network of clubs and well-preserved traditional customs. Several marksmen's clubs schedule their Pentecost and summer Schützenfeste one after another, creating a rich program of traditions throughout the summer months in the region. The Birken-Honigsessen Schützenfest is part of this chain and is a particularly popular date in August.

Schützenfest Birken-Honigsessen — edition 2026

Three days of marksmen's traditions with coronation, festival service, parade, concerts, and King's Ball. The organizer is the St. Hubertus Marksmen's Brotherhood Birken-Honigsessen 1968 e.V. A classic Rhenish Schützenfest program in the Wisserland.
