Three dates for the 2025/26 season — Altweiber, Costume Ball, and Carnival Sunday "D'r Zoch kütt" with Jeckenparty
Rommerskirchen is a municipality in the Rhein-Kreis Neuss district, situated at the transition from the Rhenish Carnival core area to the more rural Lower Rhine region. The 2025/26 Carnival season comprises three central events that together form the municipality's Lower Rhenish Carnival spectacle: Altweiber-Party, Costume Ball, and Carnival Sunday with Parade. The organizer is Bauverein Rommerskirchen e.V. in collaboration with local carnival clubs.
The start of the 2025/26 Carnival season in Rommerskirchen takes place on the traditional "Altweiber" Thursday — on February 12, 2026, starting at 11:00 AM. Unlike in some Rhenish strongholds where Altweiber is exclusively a women's festival, the Rommerskirchen version calls itself a "Party for Young and Old" — a mixed carnival celebration utilizing the traditional date. Classic program elements include tie-cutting, carnival music, and dancing in the festival tent or local pubs.
A highlight of the season is the Costume Ball on Saturday, February 28, 2026, starting at 7:00 PM in the heated festival tent. The ball is a classic carnival celebration featuring:
The climax of the season is Carnival Sunday, March 1, 2026, with the traditional parade "D'r Zoch kütt" (= "The procession is coming" in Rhenish dialect). Program:
The grand carnival parade winds its way through Rommerskirchen's town center with floats, music bands, carnival clubs, dance troupes, and walking groups. Sweets are thrown from the floats — a classic element of Rhenish carnival parades.
The parade concludes at Rommerskirchen's central festival grounds.
Immediately following, the Jeckenparty begins — the carnival closing celebration with live music, dancing, carnival hits, and the typical Rhenish carnival atmosphere lasting well into the evening.
Rommerskirchen is located in the Rhenish Carnival region — accordingly, the battle cry is the classic "Alaaf" (unlike the Cologne "Helau" or the Wolbeck "Hipp-Hipp! Meck-Meck!"). The atmosphere is typically Rhenish — cheerful, convivial, with the courage for silly costumes and a strong sense of the Carnival season as an annual ritual.
Rommerskirchen, with its approximately 13,000 inhabitants, is a municipality in the western Rhein-Kreis Neuss district, located between Cologne and Mönchengladbach. The municipality encompasses several villages and districts (Rommerskirchen, Widdeshoven, Hoeningen, Eckum), each cherishing its own carnival tradition. The carnival parade on Carnival Sunday is the central event that brings all districts together.
The 2025/26 season offers the classic Rhenish Carnival program in Rommerskirchen: from the Altweiber kickoff and the costume ball with awards to the grand parade on Carnival Sunday and the subsequent Jeckenparty. Lower Rhenish Carnival in the Rhenish "Alaaf" mode.

Rommerskirchen Town Center + Festival Grounds/Tent, 41569 Rommerskirchen. By train from Cologne Hbf or Mönchengladbach Hbf to Rommerskirchen (RB 39). By car via the A57 (exit Rommerskirchen). On Carnival Sunday, the streets along the parade route will be closed — arrive early or use park-and-ride.
Parade "D'r Zoch kütt", Altweiber-Party, and Jeckenparty are free. Costume Ball on Feb 28 requires admission — children up to 14 years old get in free.
Families with small children will enjoy the parade on Carnival Sunday — bring bags for sweets. To experience the carnival atmosphere, at least attend the Jeckenparty after the parade or the Costume Ball on Saturday evening. Carnival means costumes — so don't be too reserved with your outfit.
