Three days of spring market with flowers, plants, and Sunday shopping in Wiesdorf
When the trees bloom and May temperatures rise, Leverkusen traditionally celebrates its Frühlingsfest in der City. The district of Wiesdorf transforms into a spring market with flower, plant, and gastronomy stalls from May 1st to 3rd, 2026. Three days to kick off the season for the roughly 165,000 inhabitants of the Bayer city on the Rhine.
The center of the festival is Friedrich-Ebert-Platz with the adjacent pedestrian zone. Here you will find:
The festival concept cleverly utilizes the extended May weekend. Friday, May 1st, 2026 (May Day), opens the festival and attracts families from the surrounding Rhineland. Saturday remains a classic shopping day — many come to stroll. Sunday, May 3rd, crowns the weekend with the Sunday shopping from 1 PM to 6 PM — Wiesdorf's shops open their doors, providing the shopping highlight of the spring season.
During the festival, parts of Dhünnstraße will be closed; the Kinopolis/Rathausgalerie parking garage will be closed from Saturday 10 AM to Sunday 6 PM. Access is via the Wöhlerstraße/Carl-Leverkus-Straße roundabout. Those arriving by car should use the surrounding parking areas — on Saturday, the free parking lot Marienburger Straße is unavailable due to a Bayer 04 home game.
The independent city of Leverkusen is located on the Rhine between Cologne and Düsseldorf. Known primarily for the Bayer Group and the German football champions Bayer 04 Leverkusen, the city has a distinctive urban center in the district of Wiesdorf. The Frühlingsfest is one of the three major city events of the year, alongside the Stadtfest and the Weihnachtsmarkt.
The Frühlingsfest starts on May Day, runs in full swing on Saturday, and concludes on Sunday with the Sunday shopping. Plant and flower stalls dominate the scene, complemented by gastronomy and a children's program. Parts of Dhünnstraße will be closed during the festival; the Kinopolis/Rathausgalerie parking garage will be closed on Saturday/Sunday.
Free admission. Plants, flowers, and gastronomy at the vendors' daily prices.
S6 Leverkusen Mitte from Cologne/Düsseldorf, then a 5-minute walk to Wiesdorf city center. By car: A1 or A3 exit Leverkusen-Mitte, then B8 towards the city center. Parking garages in the vicinity — often full on Sundays with open shops.
Free admission. Plants, flowers, and gastronomy at the vendors' daily prices.
Sunday afternoon from 1 PM, when Sunday shopping starts, is the busiest. If you want to buy plants, it's best to come on Friday or Saturday morning — the selection will still be complete then.
