DIY festival for Screamo, Emo, and Hardcore at Kafe Kult
The Rites of Spring Fest is one of the newest and most independent festivals in Munich's underground scene. The venue is Kafe Kult, a self-managed socio-cultural center in the north of Munich that has been an important stage for punk, hardcore, and alternative music for years.
The festival is dedicated to the contemporary Emo and Screamo scene with a deliberately international program. Genres such as Screamo, Emoviolence, Noise-Pop, and related styles that explore today's Emo identity shape the lineup. What started in 2025 as a semi-ironic reference to internet and meme culture quickly developed into an established fixture on the DIY calendar.
The festival, organized by the CoreChaos collective, focuses on accessibility and community values. A "Pay What You Can" ticket model ensures access regardless of financial means, and FLINTA* perspectives are visibly represented throughout the lineup—an expression of a scene that lives inclusion and self-organization.
Bavaria's state capital, Munich, is known not only for Oktoberfest and large venues but also for a vibrant, self-organized subculture. The Rites of Spring Fest represents this other side of Munich, enriching the festival calendar of the Munich metropolitan area with an authentic DIY format.
The Rites of Spring Fest 2026 takes place on May 8th and 9th at Kafe Kult Munich. The festival, organized by the CoreChaos collective, is dedicated to Screamo, Emoviolence, Noise-Pop, and related styles.
