Fourth and final Kärwa in the Oberasbach Kirchweih calendar – Season finale at the Rehdorf festival grounds
The town of Oberasbach annually celebrates four Kirchweihen: the Oberasbacher Kirchweih, the Unterasbacher Kirchweih, the Altenberger Kirchweih, and the Rehdorfer Kirchweih. The latter, as the fourth and latest, forms the atmospheric season finale of the Oberasbach Kärwa season – at the end of August, as the summer warmth subsides and autumn sends its first harbingers. The Kärwa is organized by the Stammtisch »Unter uns« e.V., the Rehdorf Kärwa association.
Four festival days from Friday to Monday follow the classic Middle Franconian Kärwa schedule: Friday, beer tapping ceremony with the Trachtenrocker, Saturday, raising of the Kärwabaum by the local youths, followed by a festive evening with the party band »Die Zwangsversteigerten Doppelhaushälften«. Sunday, morning pint (Frühschoppen), lunch with roast pork, children's program, and the traditional »Angelturnier« (fishing tournament) – a humorous club competition that is one of the hallmarks of the Rehdorfer Kärwa. Monday, winding down the festival with a morning pint and the band »The Moonlights«.
The venue is the easily accessible festival grounds between the traditional inn Kretschmannshof and the Rehdorf fire station. The festival tent, catering stalls, stage, and children's area are compactly arranged. Unlike the large folk festivals, the Rehdorfer Kärwa is more family-oriented and community-focused.
Oberasbach is a town with around 18,000 inhabitants in the district of Fürth in Middle Franconia (State of Bavaria). The town is located immediately west of Fürth and is part of the Nuremberg Metropolitan Region. The town is composed of several districts, including Rehdorf, a former farming village that has since merged with the main town but has retained its own club and Kärwa character.
A special feature of the Oberasbach Kärwas is the municipal ordinance, in effect since 2009, which prohibits bringing any kind of alcoholic beverages. Catering is provided exclusively at the association's stalls.
