Swabian late summer Volksfest on the western outskirts of Augsburg
The Neusäß Volksfest was established in 1975 and has since become one of the most attractive folk festivals in the western Augsburg region, Augsburg district, state of Bavaria. In 2025, the city of Neusäß celebrated the 50th anniversary of its Volksfest together with the 150th anniversary of the city's volunteer fire departments. Celebrations take place over ten days on the central festival grounds.
The festival opens on Friday with the classic parade: clubs, fire departments, traditional costume groups, and the city band march from the Maypole in Remboldstraße at 5:30 PM to the festival tent. There, the mayor taps the first keg around 6 PM. Afterwards, the multi-day festival tent program begins. Monday and Tuesday are rest days; live bands play on all other days.
The musical program is provided by the Stadtkapelle Neusäß and regional party bands: S.O.S., Mercuries, Midnight Ladies, Joe Williams Band, Bonny Tones, Domenico Salerno, and others are among the regular guests. In addition, there are classic folk festival elements: family days with reduced ride prices, special food events like ox on the spit or Schäuferla Day, and children's programs.
Since 2025, catering has been provided by Metzgerei Schmid from Wortelstetten, serving Swabian delicacies in the festival tent: Hendl, Spätzle, Maultaschen, Krautsalat, and Brez'n. Beer comes from a regional brewery in the Augsburg area. This gives the Volksfest a distinctly Swabian character, clearly differentiating it from the large Munich folk festivals.
From September 18 to 27, 2026, it's that time again: After the celebrated 50th edition in 2025, the Neusäß Volksfest embarks on its next chapter. Ten festival days are planned again, featuring a parade on Friday, beer tapping by Mayor Greiner, live bands on festival evenings, and a family program during the day. The festivities conclude on Sunday, September 27, with the traditional Neusäß Fun Run at the Lohwaldstadion.
Free admission. Food and drinks in the festival tent at Swabian Volksfest prices (liter of beer, roast chicken, Spätzle). Amusement rides are paid for individually.
