About Randow-Festtage

For over fifty years, the Randow-Festtage have been the annual highlight of the town of Eggesin on the edge of the Stettiner Haff. Over a weekend in September, a lantern parade by children, the grand parade of Eggesin's clubs, afternoon fairy tale performances, amusement rides, and evening concerts characterize the scene on the festival grounds on Heidestraße. The festival is supported by Eggesin's clubs and is considered the most important identity-forming event in southeastern Vorpommern.

About

The Randow-Festtage are a classic Mecklenburg-Vorpommern town festival – but with its own depth: They have been held since the late 1960s, making them one of the oldest continuously held town festivals in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The name refers to the river Randow, which flows east of Eggesin into the Uecker and gives the region its name: Uecker-Randow-Land.

Schedule and Atmosphere

The festival days span two to three days in early September. Program highlights include:

  • Children's Lantern Parade on Friday evening
  • Grand Parade of Eggesin's Clubs on Saturday morning
  • Fairy Tale Performances in the afternoon for families
  • Amusement rides and stalls on the Heidestraße festival grounds
  • Concerts with pop stars, bands, and DJs in the evening

Unlike many other town festivals in the region, the program is largely organized by the Eggesin clubs themselves – sports, carnival, shooting, fishing clubs, the volunteer fire department, dance groups, the Bundeswehr partner company. This gives the festival its character, a mix of folk festival, club life, and local gathering.

Regional Context

Eggesin is located in the Vorpommern-Greifswald district, not far from the Polish border and the Stettiner Haff. The town was a garrison town for decades and is now a residential and forestry location. The Randow-Festtage are the most important occasion of the year for the population – former soldiers, long-established families, newcomers from the surrounding rural areas – to come together for a common event. The 50th edition in 2016 was celebrated with a special ceremony.

Who Organizes the Festival

The festival is organized by the town of Eggesin in cooperation with local clubs. The program is communicated via the municipal website eggesin.de and the Amt am Stettiner Haff.
