Five days of Lower Bavarian folk festival on the Pentecost weekend
The market town of Geisenhausen is located in the Lower Bavarian district of Landshut, about 15 kilometers south of the district capital, in the hilly foothills between the Isar and Vils rivers. The municipality, with around 7,000 inhabitants, is home to the Geisenhausen brewery cooperative – one of the still active cooperative breweries in Bavaria – and hosts its large folk festival every year at Pentecost.
The festival grounds in the south of the municipality offer space for the festival tent, several showman businesses, and a spacious outdoor area. The festival beer comes directly from the Geisenhausen brewery cooperative from the town itself – a rare constellation in Bavaria, as many folk festivals are now supplied by large breweries. The cooperative has existed since 1923 and supplies the Pentecost folk festival with home-brewed beer according to Lower Bavarian tradition.
Pentecost – the feast of the Holy Spirit 50 days after Easter – is a traditional folk festival date in Bavaria. Whit Monday is a public holiday, and the long Pentecost holidays attract families from all over the state to outdoor festivals. In Geisenhausen, the folk festival runs for five days from Thursday to Whit Monday and is one of the traditional folk festivals in Lower Bavaria.
The market town of Geisenhausen is the organizer, and the local clubs share the catering in the festival tent and service. In addition, classic showman businesses are on site: bumper cars, carousels, a small Ferris wheel, children's rides, and the typical snack and candy stalls. Admission to the festival grounds is free, rides are at showman prices.
From Thursday, May 21st at 5:30 PM, to Whit Monday, May 25th at 11:55 PM, the Pfingstvolksfest transforms the Geisenhausen festival grounds into a Lower Bavarian folk festival stage. The market town of Geisenhausen is the organizer, and the festival beer comes from the Geisenhausen brewery cooperative.
The program follows the classic folk festival dramaturgy: Opening on Thursday with the beer tapping ceremony, main festival days on the weekend with live music in the festival tent, and a family day on Whit Monday with reduced ride prices. The detailed program will be published on the municipality's website before the festival.
Band program and festival caterers will be published on heimat-info.de and the municipal website.
Free admission to the festival grounds and tent. A Maß (liter mug) of festival beer in the tent costs approx. 11 to 12 EUR (previous year's prices). Rides at showman prices, family day with discounts.
Geisenhausen is located on the B 11 (Landshut-Vilsbiburg-Eggenfelden), about a 20-minute drive from Landshut by car. Geisenhausen train station is on the Landshut-Mühldorf line, about 1 km from the festival grounds.
Opening on Thursday at 5:30 PM. Festival tent open daily until late at night. Festival winds down on Whit Monday around 11:55 PM.
Free admission to the entire festival grounds. Maß (liter mug) of festival beer and rides available on site.
