Traditional Lower Bavarian Volksfest since 1925
The Vilsbiburg Volksfest is one of the most traditional folk festivals in Lower Bavaria. The town of Vilsbiburg in the district of Landshut has been celebrating its Volksfest since the 1920s – a firm meeting point in the social life of the Vilstal valley.
The centerpiece is the large festival tent, catered by the Reisinger family of hosts from Straubing. Here, music bands and party bands ensure a lively atmosphere from lunch service until late in the evening. The Vilsbiburg Music Association traditionally kicks off the festivities in the tent.
The Volksfest opens with the ceremonial beer tapping by the mayor at the town square, followed by a parade to the festival grounds. Free beer is part of the tradition for the opening.
On the festival grounds, amusement rides, carousels, and numerous stalls line up, offering entertainment for the whole family. With a new edition every year, the Vilsbiburg Volksfest is an important cultural highlight in the festival calendar of the district of Landshut.
The 100th edition of the Vilsbiburg Volksfest runs from June 26 to July 5, 2026, celebrating a significant anniversary: the festival has existed since 1925/1926. The opening takes place on June 26 at 5:30 PM with the beer tapping ceremony by Mayor Sibylle Entwistle at the town square, followed by free beer; afterward, the parade proceeds to the festival grounds.
The large festival tent is hosted by the Reisinger family from Straubing. The Vilsbiburg Music Association traditionally kicks off the musical entertainment in the tent starting at 11:30 AM for lunch service, followed by brass bands and party bands until the evening. For the 100th anniversary, there is a special anniversary beer stein and pin, and the festival has been extended by one day.
Vilsbiburg is located in the district of Landshut in Lower Bavaria and is accessible via the B299 federal road and by train (Vilsbiburg station). The festival grounds are located near the town center.
Admission to the festival grounds is free. Table reservations and ticket sales are handled by the Reisinger festival tent.
The beer tapping ceremony at the town square and the subsequent parade to the festival grounds mark the traditional opening – a good time for your first visit.
