Woodturning art, amber jewelry, and wood pictures in the Pentecost studio
Kunst:Offen is the statewide campaign for open artist studios in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, held annually at Pentecost since 1995. For three days, hundreds of workshops, studios, and galleries open their doors to the interested public — a cultural policy initiative that makes artistic creation in the state visible and invites art enthusiasts to meet the creators.
In Hintersee, a quiet village in the Amt am Stettiner Haff, at Dorfstraße 127 — opposite the historic brick church — you'll find the Galerie in der Scheune. The rustically decorated barn serves as a sales exhibition, where craftsmanship meets a penchant for North German materials.
The exhibition focuses on the works of two master woodturners:
The exhibited works combine craftsmanship with artistic design — from decorative bowls and functional kitchen items to jewelry with embedded amber, the "gold of the Baltic Sea.".
Beyond the sales exhibition, the gallery's green courtyard enhances the experience: around 40 seats invite visitors to enjoy coffee and homemade cake, to linger, and to chat with the artisans. The familiar atmosphere makes the gallery one of the most popular stops on the Kunst:Offen route in eastern Vorpommern.
Hintersee is located in the Vorpommern-Greifswald district, nestled between the Stettiner Haff and the Polish border. The municipality belongs to the Amt am Stettiner Haff and impresses with its natural setting and dedicated artists who support the cultural profile of the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
From May 23rd to 25th, 2026, the barn at Dorfstraße 127 will once again transform into a rustic sales exhibition. Master woodturner Karina Ihlenburg (Hintersee) and master woodturner Claus Rose (Eggesin) will present their latest works and be available for discussions.
The focus is on handcrafted woodturned objects for home and kitchen, amber jewelry, and wooden wall art with North German motifs. The pieces are unique or small series — available for purchase directly on-site.
In the green courtyard, over 40 seats invite visitors to enjoy coffee and homemade cake, offering a relaxed setting for meeting and enjoyment. Families are welcome — the quiet location opposite the village church provides a peaceful atmosphere.
Admission to the sales exhibition is free. The exhibited woodturned items, jewelry, and wood pictures are available for direct purchase — prices vary depending on the piece. Coffee and cake in the courtyard are available for self-service payment.
Car: Via the A20 (exit Anklam or Pasewalk), continue via B110 / L283 to Hintersee. Parking available in the village.
Train: Nearest station is Ueckermünde (approx. 15 km), then bus or taxi to Hintersee.
Pentecost Saturday to Pentecost Monday, each from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. The gallery is located at Dorfstraße 127, opposite the village church.
