Advent village market on the 1st Sunday of Advent on Hindenburgstraße
Kusterdingen is located in the Tübingen district at the foot of the Swabian Jura, east of the university city of Tübingen. With around 8,300 inhabitants, the municipality is a typical Swabian village with a lively club scene — and a Christmas market that has been a firm fixture on the 1st Sunday of Advent for years.
The market stretches along Hindenburgstraße, Kusterdingen's central axis. Wooden huts, decorated pavilions, and stalls offer Advent pastries, jams, honey, regional specialties, arts and crafts, candles, knitted hats, Advent decorations, and Christmas trees from the region. Local clubs, schools, and kindergartens run stalls — the proceeds usually benefit the clubs' coffers or charitable projects.
Hot mulled wine is a must at the Kusterdingen Christmas market, along with children's punch, bratwurst from a charcoal grill, crêpes, roasted chestnuts, and Swabian Advent pastries such as Springerle, Spitzbuben, and vanilla crescents. The scent of cinnamon, roasted almonds, and mulled wine makes the market a sensory start to the pre-Christmas season.
Family-friendliness is an important element: Children will find craft activities, a carousel, occasional visits from St. Nicholas with small gifts, and Advent singing by local children's and school choirs. The atmosphere is small, village-like, personal — not a gigantic city market, but a meeting place for the community and its neighbors.
The 1st Sunday of Advent 2026 falls on November 29. Kusterdingen thus officially opens the pre-Christmas season in the Tübingen district — a date that many families from the surrounding communities (Wankheim, Mähringen, Jettenburg, Tübingen, Reutlingen) head for.
The 2026 Christmas market falls precisely on the 1st Sunday of Advent, thus opening the pre-Christmas season in the municipality. For seven hours, Hindenburgstraße will be filled with festive stalls, mulled wine huts, stalls from local clubs, and a family-friendly supporting program.
The market is open from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM — the short Advent twilight around 4:30 PM will make the fairy lights and hut lighting particularly effective. The organizer is the Kusterdingen municipal administration; the market is coordinated by Ms. Nancy Friedrichsmeier (07071 1308-25).
Free admission. Mulled wine €4, children's punch €2, bratwurst €4. Market goods at usual Advent market prices.
