Summer festival of the Musikverein Jettenburg — two days of village festival in the garden of the community hall
The word „Hocketse“ (also spelled „Hocketse“ or „Sommerhock“) is a genuinely Swabian term for a casual village festival organised by an association. The Sommerhock Jettenburg is such a classic Swabian Hocketse — organised by the Musikverein Jettenburg in the Jettenburg district of the municipality of Kusterdingen, southeast of Tübingen in the Tübingen district. In 2026, the festival will take place on the weekend of June 27 and 28.
As is customary for a classic Hocketse, the programme runs over two consecutive days:
The venue is the centre of Jettenburg and the garden of the community hall — a frequently used festival site for association festivals in the municipality of Kusterdingen. Free admission.
The Musikverein Jettenburg is the musical organiser of the festival. The brass band rehearses on Fridays from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. in the Jettenburg community hall and performs regularly at local and regional events. At the Sommerhock, they play the opening concert and the morning pint concert, while guest bands from the region perform as visiting ensembles. This association structure is typical of the Württemberg-Swabian association landscape and makes the festival an authentic example of rural festival culture.
The Musikverein itself handles the catering, supplemented by helpers from the village. Swabian festival classics — Bratwurst, Maultaschen, Schupfnudeln, cakes, and coffee in the afternoon — are served. In the beer tent, association members serve regional beer and Swabian wines. A family programme with children's games, a bouncy castle, and hands-on activities complements the offerings on Sunday afternoon.
Jettenburg is a historic hamlet that today belongs to the municipality of Kusterdingen as a district. With around 1,200 inhabitants, Jettenburg has retained a typical Swabian village character — half-timbered houses, a small church, and active association life characterise the village scene. The municipality of Kusterdingen, with its approximately 8,200 inhabitants, is located in the Albvorland between Tübingen and the Swabian Jura — popular with commuters who work in Tübingen or Reutlingen but want to live in a village setting. Visitors to the Sommerhock will experience a vibrant example of Swabian village culture.
The Sommerhock Jettenburg 2026 will be held on June 27 and 28, 2026, in the garden of the community hall. It is organised by the Musikverein Jettenburg, which provides the village's brass band and has been hosting the annual summer festival for years.
Saturday evening begins with a concert by the brass band, and Sunday features a morning pint, lunch, an afternoon programme, and the traditional village reunion. Guest bands from the region perform as visiting ensembles. Catering includes Swabian festival classics (Bratwurst, Maultaschen, Schupfnudeln). Free admission.
