Volksbad Buckau — Reawakened

The Volksbad Buckau in Magdeburg is an architectural gem: built in 1898 as a municipal public bath, a meeting place for swimmers of all social classes for decades, later left to decay — and revived as a cultural venue in recent years. Today, exhibitions, debates, dancing, and celebrations take place here. One of the most important new events at the venue is the Volksbad-Festival, initiated by Frauenzentrum Courage e.V. — a festival for FLINTA* individuals in the music world.

FLINTA* Visibility in Music

What does FLINTA* mean? Women, Lesbians, Intersex, Non-binary, Trans, and Agender people — an acronym encompassing the diversity of genders and sexual identities often underrepresented in the traditional music industry. The Volksbad-Festival offers them a stage for an entire day: three concerts, two DJ sets, a panel discussion on FLINTA* visibility in the music world, plus a photo exhibition FEMMAGE by Ada Greifenhahn featuring 24 musicians.

Concerts and Workshops

Musically, the festival in 2026 presents a curated trio: LIN (5:00 PM, electropop from Berlin, solo with synthesiser, drums, guitar, and bass), Älice (8:00 PM, Reggaeton and rap with Hamburg-Caribbean-Polish roots), and freekind. (9:00 PM, R&B/Soul duo from Austria with piano and drums). Plus DJ sets by Elisabeth Franz and DJ VanDuschka. During the day, four workshops complement the programme: Kickboxing (FLINTA*-only), Body Positivity, Screen Printing, and Macramé Basics.

Volksbad Buckau in Southern Magdeburg

The Volksbad is located in the Buckau district in southern Magdeburg — a quarter rich in industrial history with brick architecture, which has developed an alternative, creative subculture in recent years. Schönebecker Straße 83 is accessible, has accessible toilets, and a lift. Tickets are available on a self-assessment basis between €6 and €12 — a consistently solidarity-based pricing model that is still an exception in the state of Saxony-Anhalt.
