Traditional time trial on Whit Monday in the Amt am Stettiner Haff
Since its beginnings nearly two decades ago, the Hintersee Individual Time Trial has been the traditional season opener for road cyclists from Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Brandenburg, and neighboring Poland. Over the years, the race has earned a firm place in the region's Whit Monday calendar — the 19th edition is scheduled for 2026.
The start and finish are at the Fennschänke, a traditional inn on the outskirts of Hintersee. The route covers approximately 18.5 kilometers to Ahlbeck and back along the same path — a flat profile with hardly any inclines, ideal for meaningful time measurements. Riders will start at one-minute intervals from 10:00 AM. Classic time trial bikes are as welcome as standard road bikes.
The organizer is Radteam Hintersee, an amateur cycling club with over 30 active members. The club organizes the race on a voluntary basis — from route safety to timing. The award ceremony traditionally takes place around 1:00 PM after a communal lunch at the Fennschänke. Every finisher receives a certificate with their time and a medal.
Hintersee is a small municipality in the Amt am Stettiner Haff, directly on the Polish border. With the individual time trial, the village positions itself as a sporting meeting point in the Vorpommern-Greifswald district, complemented by other club activities such as the sports club Frisch-Auf 1906 Blau-Weiss Hintersee, which will celebrate its 120th anniversary in 2026. The combination of natural scenery — Stettiner Haff, pine forests, sparsely populated landscape — and volunteer-supported sports culture shapes the charm of the event in the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
The meeting point is the Fennschänke in Hintersee. From 9:30 AM, bib number distribution and final registrations. The first rider starts at 10:00 AM, with all subsequent riders following at one-minute intervals. The event concludes around 2:00 PM.
The route covers 18.5 kilometers to Ahlbeck and returns via the same path. Classifications are by age groups for men and women. Classic time trial bikes are permitted, as are standard road bikes. Helmet required.
After crossing the finish line, a communal lunch will be held at the Fennschänke, followed by the award ceremony around 1:00 PM with the presentation of certificates, medals, and times.
