40th edition – Frankfurt's largest street festival in Sachsenhausen with up to 200,000 visitors
The Schweizer Straßenfest is what has heralded the summer in Frankfurt for almost four decades: by far the city's largest street festival, drawing up to 200,000 visitors to Schweizer Straße in northern Sachsenhausen in peak years. 2026 marks the 40th anniversary edition – a round birthday for an event that has shaped the Frankfurt district festival calendar between Gartenstraße and Textorstraße since 1987.
The Schweizer Straße is the main commercial artery of Sachsenhausen-Nord: delicatessens, restaurants, bistros, Apfelwein taverns, cafés, bars – a dense network of owner-managed gastronomy and small boutiques stretching from Schweizer Platz to Textorstraße. During the street festival, all these businesses open their doors, set up standing tables on the sidewalk, and serve alongside the temporary market stalls. This very mix of neighborhood gastronomy and festival mile defines its character – not a festival from a catalog, but a festival born from the neighborhood itself.
Musically, the festival is supported by three stages: at Schweizer Platz (main stage with opening ceremony), at the Volksbank, and in Textorstraße. Renowned DJs from the Frankfurt club scene, plus live bands from all genres. The Aktionsgemeinschaft Schweizer Straße (AGS), as the organizer, has ensured a balanced mix for years – not a pure house festival, but also not a pure Schlager festival.
Around 70 stalls offer international cuisine and Frankfurt specialties – Handkäs, Grüne Soße, Apfelwein, alongside Mediterranean, Asian, and Oriental dishes. The Marktstraße transforms into a children's mile on Saturday with games and activities. The highlight on Saturday afternoon: the grand tombola, with proceeds going to the Frankfurter Kinderhilfsstiftung.
A small but important innovation: in 2026, the festival will be held as a Friday-Saturday format for the first time, instead of the traditional Saturday-Sunday. This is based on experiences from recent years and the wishes of many residents. The opening will be moved to Friday afternoon, and the grand tombola will take place on Saturday afternoon. After a complete cancellation in 2023 (financial reasons) and a postponement to autumn in 2024 (European Championship), the festival has been firmly re-established in June since 2025.
Two days of festival mile on Schweizer Straße between Gartenstraße and Textorstraße. Gastronomy from around the world, Frankfurt specialties, three stages with a varied program. The deadline for stall applications was February 28, 2026. The exact artist lineup will be published shortly before the festival at die-schweizerstrasse.de.
Free admission. Payment at stalls and in the surrounding Schweizer Straße establishments. Tombola tickets are subject to a fee (proceeds for the children's foundation).
By subway: U1, U2, U3, U8 to Schweizer Platz – directly at the festival grounds. By tram: Line 16 to Schweizer-/Gartenstraße. Ten minutes by subway from the main train station. Driving is strongly discouraged: no festival parking, road closures in the neighborhood.
Friday, June 19, 2026: 4 PM to 11 PM. Saturday, June 20, 2026: 12 PM to 11 PM. Official opening at Schweizer Platz Friday 2 PM to 4 PM / Saturday 2 PM (based on previous years' pattern).
Free admission. Payment at the stalls and in the surrounding establishments.
For atmosphere, come earlier (4 PM to 7 PM Friday, 2 PM to 5 PM Saturday). From 7 PM on Saturday, the festival gets very crowded. Families should plan for Saturday afternoon with the children's mile in Marktstraße. For Apfelwein and Frankfurt specialties, turn off the hustle and bustle onto Klappergasse or Wallstraße.
