Frankfurt's largest cultural festival – three days of museums, stages, and the Main riverbank
When Frankfurt's museums open their doors wide for a weekend, the Schaumainkai becomes a festival mile, and dragon boats paddle against the current on the Main, it's time for the Museumsuferfest. The three festival days at the end of August annually attract around one million visitors to the riverbanks, making it one of Europe's largest cultural festivals.
The festival mile stretches across both banks of the Main – from the Alte Brücke in the east to the Friedensbrücke in the west. On the Sachsenhausen side, the famous Museumsufer (Museum Embankment) lines up: Städel, Liebieghaus, Museum of Applied Arts, German Film Museum, German Architecture Museum, Museum of World Cultures, and more – over 25 institutions with extended opening hours and special programs. On the city side, food stalls, booths, and stages are set up along the Untermainkai.
Instead of individual museum tickets, there's the Museumsuferfest Button for €7 – granting access to all participating museums for three days. So, if you've always wanted to visit the Städel, the Liebieghaus, and the Film Museum in one weekend, this is your chance.
On more than 12 stages, live bands, DJs, and performance artists play across all genres – from jazz and classical to hip-hop, rock, and world music. Around 400 stalls offer international cuisine, arts and crafts, and regional specialties. This makes the Museumsuferfest a culinary world tour along 2.5 kilometers of river promenade.
On Saturday and Sunday, spectacular dragon boat races take place on the Main – a classic with a long tradition. The grand finale is the large firework display on Sunday evening around 10 PM, staged over the Main and synchronized to music. The best viewing spots are the Untermainbrücke and the Eiserne Steg promenade.
Three days of open-air cultural festival along both banks of the Main. The deadline for exhibitor registration was May 22, 2026. Admission to the festival grounds is free; the Museumsuferfest Button costs €7 for access to all participating museums.
