About Markttage Bredstedt

The Bredstedter Markttage is the big summer town festival of the North Frisian district town of Bredstedt, transforming the market square and Osterstraße into a colourful festival mile for three days. Bands of all styles play on two music stages — Pop, Rock, Schlager. Food stalls with international specialities and a large Ferris wheel or the "Fiese Friese" giant swing offer a funfair atmosphere. Highlights on Saturday include the Markttage Run (Kids, Taster, and 5 km run) and the "Day of the Associations". Organised by HGV Bredstedt together with the town of Bredstedt — in 2026 with a special focus on the anniversary "125 Years of Town Rights".

From Thursday, July 30 to Saturday, August 1, 2026, Bredstedt celebrates the Markttage in conjunction with the anniversary "125 Years of Town Rights". Two stages with Pop, Rock, and Schlager (including Mendocino Express, Luna Soul, MIU), the Markttage Run on Saturday, Association Day, and the new "Fiese Friese" giant swing.

The Bredstedter Markttage 2026 will take place from July 30 to August 1 — embedded in the anniversary year "125 Years of Town Rights". Thursday evening opening with the Bredstedt marching band and DJ Chris, followed by live bands (Mendocino Express, then DJ Chris until midnight). Friday with the weekly market and Frühschoppen, evening performances by Luna Soul and MIU, among others. Saturday is the big Sports and Association Day with the Markttage Run in several distances and the "Day of the Associations" on Osterstraße with over 30 associations. Evening programme with Good Music Live and DJ Louicyphers. The "Fiese Friese" giant swing will be featured for the first time.

By train to Bredstedt (Marschbahn Hamburg–Westerland), 5 minutes' walk to the market square. By car via the B5. Parking available at Preisler, markant, Bahnhof, and surrounding streets.

Bredstedt in the District of Nordfriesland

Bredstedt is a small town in the Nordfriesland district in the state of Schleswig-Holstein, located on the B5 federal highway between Husum and Niebüll. The community of around 5,000 inhabitants is a central hub for the Mittleres Nordfriesland office and has developed remarkably active town marketing in recent years. In 2026, the town will celebrate the anniversary "125 Years of Town Rights".

Three Days of the Town Centre in Festival Mode

Every summer, the Markttage transform Bredstedt's town centre into a continuous festival mile for three days. Two stages — one on the market square, one in Osterstraße — present changing live programmes from Pop and Rock to Schlager. Food stalls offer regional and international specialities, from Bratwurst and prawn rolls to Asian and Mediterranean cuisine. The "Fiese Friese" giant swing — a swing over 30 metres high — will provide a special atmosphere for the first time in 2026.

Markttage Run and Association Day on Saturday

Saturday adds a sporting touch: in the afternoon, the Markttage Run takes place through the town centre in several distances — 1:00 PM Kids Run, 1:30 PM Taster Run (2.5 km), 2:15 PM 5 km Run. At the same time, around 40 associations from the Mittleres Nordfriesland office present their work on the "Buntes Osterstraße" Association Day — from sports clubs and fire brigades to social and cultural associations. A remarkable gesture for a town festival that sees itself not only as entertainment but also as a community.
