Grand Party and Procession for the 1250th Anniversary of the Municipality
Raisting is a Bavarian municipality in the Weilheim-Schongau district, southwest of Lake Ammersee, on the transition to the Pfaffenwinkel. The first documented mention dates back to the year 776 — therefore, 2026 will celebrate the 1250th anniversary of the town. The municipality of Raisting is using the year for a multi-part festival program with two major highlights.
The first and probably largest festival evening will be the Grand Anniversary Party on Friday, June 12, 2026, starting at 6:00 PM on the sports grounds on Wielenbacher Straße. Planned are festival operations with Bavarian cuisine and festival beer, live music with regional bands, festive speeches, and an official program to honor local history. The event is designed as a large village and festival celebration for the entire community of Raisting as well as the neighboring municipalities of Wielenbach, Pähl, Weilheim, and Tutzing.
The second highlight in late summer is the Procession with a traditional costume and craft market. Here, historically costumed groups, traditional costume associations, music bands, and clubs from the municipality will march through the town, followed by a market with historical crafts and regional gastronomy. The exact program choreography will be published by the festival committee in the months before the date on the festival website hut-raisting.de.
Raisting is known far beyond the region for its Raisting Earth Station with its characteristic radome hemisphere, which has shaped the village since 1964 and was one of Europe's first civilian satellite ground stations. During the festival year, this modern identity — Raisting as a place of telecommunications history — is also to be programmatically integrated.
The municipality lies on the transition to the Pfaffenwinkel, a region of Bavaria with particularly dense sacred architectural culture (Wieskirche, Wessobrunn Monastery, Polling Monastery). The 1250th anniversary of Raisting fits into this regional identity — rural, tradition-conscious, yet modern and internationally networked.
The 2026 edition is designed as a complete festival year, with two central highlights:
June 12, 2026 — Grand Anniversary Party: Kick-off on Friday evening from 6 PM on the sports grounds on Wielenbacher Straße. Festival operations with festival beer, Bavarian cuisine, live music, and an official ceremony for the anniversary.
September 13, 2026 — Procession with Traditional Costume and Craft Market: Historically costumed groups, traditional costume associations, music bands, and clubs from the municipality will march through the town. Afterwards, a market with old crafts and regional gastronomy.
The complete festival program (band lineups, parade route, market stalls) will be published by the festival committee in the months leading up to the dates on raisting.de and the dedicated festival website hut-raisting.de.
Between the two highlights, other smaller events are planned (lectures, club evenings, parish ceremony). The complete festival year program will be documented on hut-raisting.de.
Raisting is located between Weilheim and Lake Ammersee. By car via the A95 (Weilheim exit) and B2. By train to Weilheim and then by bus or taxi (approx. 10 minutes). The sports grounds on Wielenbacher Straße are signposted.
Admission to the anniversary party is generally free or for a small contribution towards costs — to be announced by the festival committee. The procession on September 13 is publicly free of charge.
