48th Radolfzell Old Town Festival — Lake Constance Tradition
The Radolfzell Old Town Festival is one of the most beautiful and largest city festivals on the western shores of Lake Constance. For over 40 years, it has taken place on the first weekend of September — an event that is part of the city's DNA. In 2026, Radolfzell will celebrate its 48th edition. On Saturday, September 12, from 11 AM to 10 PM, the entire old town — Seetorstraße, Marktplatz, Teggingerstraße, and the adjacent alleys — will transform into a festival and market mile.
What Characterizes the Old Town Festival
Unlike purely catering-focused festivals, the Radolfzell Old Town Festival strongly emphasizes the creative and artisanal aspects:
- Artisans showcase their skills live — wood carving, pottery, glassblowing, blacksmithing, leatherworking, goldsmithing
- Street artists with acrobatics, mime, live music, magic, and performances will roam the old town
- Retailers and restaurateurs open their doors with special promotions and market stalls in front of their shops
- Local clubs present their activities at information booths
- Music groups perform on several stages — Jazz, Folk, Classical, Pop
This mix makes the festival a kind of 'living showcase' of Radolfzell's city culture — different from a classic Volksfest (popular festival) and with a distinctly more creative profile.
Art-Plätzle and Children's Flea Market
Two special areas define the festival:
- The Art-Plätzle (Art Corner) is a dedicated creative zone featuring art workshops, hands-on stations, live painting, and artist sales booths. Here, you can get creative yourself — fabric printing, small sculptures, mosaic workshops.
- The Children's Flea Market has been a unique selling point for years: children sell toys, children's clothing, books, plush toys — often with parental support. A charming opportunity to give youngsters their first selling experience.
Flea Market on Teggingerstraße
Along Teggingerstraße, a large flea and antique market will take place on the same day — private vendors offering vintage clothing, vinyl records, books, antiques, and collectibles. An ideal complement to the Old Town Festival with a different character.
2026 is Radolfzell's Jubilee Year
The city of Radolfzell celebrates a jubilee in 2026 (Radolfzell City Jubilee), which will also be reflected in the Old Town Festival: On Saturday, additional 'Time Travel Stations' will be set up, showcasing historical periods of Radolfzell's city history — Middle Ages, early modern period, industrialization, 20th century. Sunday (September 13) will feature a celebratory church service, procession, and historical activities — the jubilee focus thus extends throughout the entire weekend.
Radolfzell on Lake Constance
Radolfzell is the second-largest city on the western shore of Lake Constance (Untersee) in the district of Konstanz. With around 32,000 inhabitants, a medieval town center, the Münster Unserer Lieben Frau (Minster of Our Dear Lady), and its direct lakeside location, Radolfzell is one of the most beautiful cities on Lake Constance. You can reach Radolfzell by train from Konstanz in 15 minutes, from Singen in 10 minutes. The old town is entirely walkable.
