A Unique Lake Constance Backdrop

The Radolfzell Christmas Market is among the most beautiful Advent markets on Lake Constance. On the market square in front of the mighty Gothic Minster of Our Dear Lady, framed by the baroque Austrian Schlößle and the Historic Town Hall, a contemplative atmosphere arises that you will rarely find concentrated like this. Unlike the large city Christmas markets, Radolfzell focuses on quality: genuine craftspeople, regional products, honest gastronomy.

60 Stalls of Genuine Crafts

The approximately 60 exhibitors were carefully selected — no mass-produced goods, no plastic imports. You will find handmade soaps, felt crafts, pottery from the Hegau region, wood carvings from the Black Forest, Lake Constance ceramics, honey products, handmade children's clothing, and arts and crafts from the South German region. The stalls are built in the traditional wooden style and decorated with fir branches.

Fairy Lights and Children's Carousel

What makes the Radolfzell market special: the hundreds of fairy lights in the old lime and plane trees around the square. As soon as dusk falls — from 4 PM in December — the market square transforms into a sea of lights. In the center, the nostalgic children's carousel with horses, swans, and carriages turns, which is reassembled every year and delights generations of Radolfzell children.

Gastronomy Between Lake Constance and the Black Forest

The winter gastronomy is one of the market's strengths. You can eat Dinnele (a type of Black Forest Flammkuchen), fried Lake Constance fish, hearty soups from a wood fire, Schupfnudeln with sauerkraut, classic grilled sausage in a bun, roasted chestnuts, fresh waffles, and crêpes. To drink, there's mulled wine made from regional Lake Constance wines, punch, hot apple wine, and Lake Constance tea.

Minster of Our Dear Lady

The Minster, at the foot of which the market takes place, is a late Gothic hall church from the 15th century and a landmark of Radolfzell. During the market weekend, a visit inside is worthwhile: the high altarpiece, the Pyrgomalter statue, and the warm atmosphere of the church are an Advent addition to the market events.

Radolfzell — Health Resort on the Western Lake Constance

Radolfzell, with a good 31,000 inhabitants, is a central town in the Konstanz district, located on the Untersee (lower lake) on the Bavarian island of Mettnau. The health resort with its Mettnau spa, the pier on the shores of Lake Constance, the Hausherreninsel island, and its proximity to Mainau make the town a year-round destination. In Advent, visitors often combine the Christmas market with a walk along Lake Constance or a tour of Mainau.
