Neukölln's first queer street festival in Reuterkiez
The Queer Street Festival Reuterkiez is one of Berlin's newest and most political festivals. It was founded in 2025 in response to a series of homophobic and right-wing attacks on the queer café Das Hoven at Pflügerstraße 19 — including neo-Nazi graffiti, a break-in, and physical assaults against staff and owner Danjel Zarte. Regular patrons and neighbors founded the non-profit association Queer & Friends e.V. and organized a crowdfunding campaign and the district's first queer street festival within a few weeks.
Following the successful launch in 2025 (over 1,000 visitors), the 2nd edition will take place on June 6 and 7, 2026 under the motto "Queer & Friends — Festival of Love." Pflügerstraße will be transformed into an open-air stage in front of the Hoven restaurant. Program highlights include: Drag shows, live music, readings, DJ sets, political speeches, a children's program on Saturday, and food and drink stands. Organizing committee: Café/Restaurant Hoven, Queer & Friends e.V., neighborhood initiatives from Reuterkiez.
Reuterkiez (often called Kreuzkölln — a portmanteau of Kreuzberg and Neukölln) has been considered one of Berlin's queerest neighborhoods since the 2010s, with a high concentration of queer cafés, bars, and event venues. The festival deliberately positions itself on the street, not in a club — a statement of visibility in response to the attacks that Das Hoven experienced.
From Saturday, June 6, to Sunday, June 7, 2026, the second edition of "Queer & Friends — Festival of Love" will take place in front of the Café/Restaurant Das Hoven at Pflügerstraße 19 in Reuterkiez (Neukölln). The street will host a stage, bar, and program space, with Das Hoven also opening its premises. Program highlights include: Live music with Berlin bands, drag shows with local scene stars, readings (including for children), DJ sets by Reuterkiez DJs, and political speeches on the visibility and protection of queer spaces in Berlin. Admission is free. Donations to Queer & Friends e.V. to cover future expenses are welcome.
