About Berlin Festival Milonguero

32 hours of Tango, seven milongas, seven Argentine show couples, international DJ sets, and the live orchestra Orquesta Sonder Tango: From July 16th to 19th, 2026, the Berlin Festival Milonguero will transform the historic Ballhaus Rixdorf in Berlin-Neukölln into arguably the city's most intense Tango weekend. The festival strictly follows the milonguero style – close embrace, traditional music, codes of the Buenos Aires schools.

Tango milonguero – a style, an attitude

Tango milonguero is a specific style of Argentine Tango, characterized by the abrazo cerrado (close embrace) and the music of the golden Tango era of the 1940s. The Berlin Festival Milonguero is specifically aimed at dancers who cultivate this tradition – and at everyone currently learning the codes of the Tango world in Berlin.

Ballhaus Rixdorf – the dance hall with history

The Ballhaus Rixdorf at Kottbusser Damm 76 in Neukölln is one of Berlin's most traditional dance venues and has been the home for several Berlin Tango communities for decades. Its wooden floor, stage, and intimate atmosphere make it the ideal setting for milongas in the milonguero style. During the four festival days, multiple milongas run daily – afternoon, evening, and late into the night.

Program: 7 Milongas, 7 Show Couples, 7 DJs

The 2026 festival brings together seven renowned Argentine show couples, including Jonathan Saavedra & Clarisa Aragon and Fernando Sanchez & Ariadna Naveira – names that carry weight in the international Tango scene. Seven DJs will provide the tandas, with a focus on Argentine and Turkish schools (including Aaron Benchimol, Maria Mondino, Dilara Ogretmen, Diego Riemer, Johana Jezernicki, Guillermo Monti, Ralph Nasi). The Orquesta Sonder Tango will play live, accompanied by singer Carlos Roulet.

Neukölln, Berlin's unofficial Tango capital

Besides Buenos Aires and Paris, Berlin is one of the most important Tango cities in the world. Several thousand active dancers, a dozen open milongas per week, regular festivals. Neukölln, one of Berlin's youngest and most multicultural districts, is one of the central Tango districts – Ballhaus Rixdorf on Kottbusser Damm is as much a part of Berlin's Tango geography as Café Tortoni is to Buenos Aires.
