International Fireworks World Championship on the Maifeld at Berlin's Olympic Stadium
Since 2005, the Pyronale has been Berlin's annual fireworks world championship. The venue is the Maifeld, located directly next to the Olympic Stadium in Berlin-Westend (Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf district). The area, with its wide sightlines, the bell tower, and a direct view of the Berlin Olympic grounds, is one of the few locations in the capital that can accommodate a large-scale fireworks display of this magnitude.
Over two evenings in September, six international pyrotechnics teams compete against each other. Each team produces a fireworks display lasting 16 to 18 minutes, choreographed to specially composed music. The displays follow a set dramaturgy: first, a 1.5–2 minute opening with two predetermined colors, followed by a 3–4 minute compulsory part set to specially composed music, and then 10–12 minutes of free choice based on around 100 classical pieces. The event concludes with a 4–5 minute finale by Flash Art, performed out of competition.
A panel of experts, consisting of pyrotechnicians, music experts, and organizers, evaluates each show based on criteria such as composition, choreography, synchronization with music, technical brilliance, and visual impact. The audience votes for a separate audience award. Past winners have come from countries including Italy, Spain, China, and Germany.
Those who want to experience the full program with music and accompanying events can purchase a ticket for the grandstand on the Maifeld. However, for a certain Berlin audience, the nearby Teufelsberg has become an established free viewing point: although the visual display is smaller from there, the atmosphere on a warm September evening with a view over the Olympic grounds has its own unique charm. The organizer is Pyronale GmbH.
The Pyronale 2026 will be ignited on Friday, September 25th, and Saturday, September 26th, 2026. As every year, the venue is the Maifeld at the Olympic Stadium (14053 Berlin-Westend). The event starts at 8:30 PM on both evenings.
Six pyrotechnics teams from various countries will compete against each other, with each team designing a 16- to 18-minute fireworks display set to music. The exact list of participants for 2026 will be published with the detailed program in the summer of 2026 on the official Pyronale website.
Tickets are available via Ticketmaster, MyTicket, and the official festival website. A free viewing option is available from the neighboring Teufelsberg.
In the previous year (September 5th/6th, 2025), the following teams competed:
Confirmation of the participating teams for 2026 will be available at pyronale.de/programm.
Specific ticket prices will be announced with the program. Tickets are available via pyronale.de, Ticketmaster, and MyTicket. Grandstand seats, premium lounges, and sponsorship packages are available. Viewing from Teufelsberg is free.
Take the S-Bahn lines S3, S9 or the U-Bahn line U2 to Olympia-Stadion, then walk about 10 minutes to the Maifeld. Bus lines M49 and 218 also stop nearby. By car, take Heerstraße; parking is available around the Olympic Stadium – however, it is subject to charges on show nights and fills up quickly.
Tickets are available via Ticketmaster, MyTicket, and the official Pyronale website. Seating on the grandstand and premium areas with catering can be booked.
Bring warm clothing – September evenings on the Maifeld can get chilly quickly. Those who wish to watch the fireworks from Teufelsberg should arrive well before sunset; the climb takes about 15 minutes. Sturdy shoes are recommended.
