24th Village and Wine Festival on the Kaiserstuhl — four days of wine, music, and culinary delights
When the grape harvest begins on the Kaiserstuhl in early September, the municipality of Bötzingen invites you to its 24th Village and Wine Festival. From September 11 to 14, 2026, the Bötzingen associations will transform the main street into a four-day festival mile with Kaiserstuhl wines, culinary specialties, and a packed program of music and entertainment.
Mayor Dieter Schneckenburger will officially open the festival at 6 PM. With the traditional tapping of the first barrel, four days of Kaiserstuhl indulgence will begin.
Main festival day with live music on several stages, dancing, and entertainment. Over 20 Bötzingen associations — sports clubs, music clubs, church communities, volunteer fire department — will serve guests homemade specialties. The region's Wine Princess will traditionally be a guest.
Ecumenical service in the morning, followed by a Frühschoppen (morning pint) with brass music, lunch served by the volunteer fire department, in the afternoon program for seniors and families, children's program with hands-on activities.
Festival winding down with a cozy closing program — Monday is traditionally dedicated to relaxed get-togethers and the last wine tasting before the associations clear the festival grounds.
The focus of the festival is on the wines from the Kaiserstuhl — one of Germany's oldest and warmest wine-growing regions of volcanic origin. Bötzingen itself is one of the largest wine-producing municipalities in the region; the renowned vineyards such as Eichberg, Steingrüble, and Sonnhole are located around the village. The Bötzingen vintners serve their top wines — from the full-bodied Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris to fresh White Pinot and Müller-Thurgau — directly at the association stands.
With around 5,300 inhabitants, Bötzingen is located in the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district at the southwestern foot of the Kaiserstuhl, about 15 km northwest of Freiburg im Breisgau. The municipality is one of the sunniest places in Germany — the Kaiserstuhl, a volcanic low mountain range between the Black Forest and the Vosges, has an exceptional microclimate that enables high-quality viticulture. Hiking and cycling trails through the vineyards are perfect complements to visiting the festival.
The Bötzingen Village and Wine Festival enters its 24th edition in 2026. Four festival days from September 11 to 14 on the main street in the center of Bötzingen — framed by the vineyards of the Kaiserstuhl.
Mayor Dieter Schneckenburger will open the festival on Friday at 6 PM with the traditional tapping of the first barrel. Over 20 Bötzingen associations will serve guests homemade specialties and pour Kaiserstuhl wines. Sunday features an ecumenical service, the family program, and the seniors' program.
