Family-friendly summer festival of the Schwollen Daycare Center Support Association
In many small Hunsrück villages like Schwollen, the support and parent associations of the daycare centers are central players in village life. They organize summer festivals, Advent bazaars, flea markets, and events whose proceeds flow directly into the well-being of the children – for toys, learning materials, excursions, equipment, and special projects that the public budget alone cannot cover.
The Sommerfest in Schwollen follows a proven format: the meeting point is the community hall and its surroundings. Inside, there is coffee and cake from the cake bazaar, to which daycare center parents contribute homemade specialties; outside, there is grilling – sausages, steaks, vegetarian alternatives. Hands-on stations are set up for children: face painting, craft table, sack races, skill games, sometimes a bouncy castle or giant Lego.
The Sommerfest is a classic Hunsrück village festival: no professional staging, no admission fee, but community, volunteer commitment, and the joy of being together. Families from Schwollen meet, neighbors from surrounding towns stop by, and grandparents who live further away make the Sommerfest a family meeting point. Anyone who wants to experience the real Hunsrück beyond the tourist routes will find it here.
