Hiking through the Kaiserstuhl Vineyards

The Kaiserstuhl is one of Germany's special wine-growing regions — of volcanic origin, with terraced vineyards, scattered loess soil, and a Mediterranean microclimate that makes exceptionally good Burgundy wines possible. Oberrotweil is one of the most important wine villages on the western slope of the Kaiserstuhl, a district of the town Vogtsburg im Kaiserstuhl. For 22 years, the Culinary Wine Hike of the Oberrotweil Winegrowers' Association has led through the vineyards around the village — the next edition will take place on Saturday, July 11, 2026.

Format of the Wine Hike

The concept is clear: a circular route of 5 to 5.5 km winds through the vineyards around Oberrotweil. Along the route, there are 7 gastronomic stations — at each, there is a course of regional cuisine, paired with a suitable Oberrotweil wine. Over the course of the hike, you will taste a multi-course summer evening: appetizer, soup, main course, cheese, dessert, accompanied by dry and off-dry wines from the winegrowers' association.

Start between 9:00 AM and 12:00 PM

The start is staggered between 9:00 AM and 12:00 PM from the Oberrotweil Winegrowers' Association at Bahnhofstraße 31, Vogtsburg-Oberrotweil. Each hiker chooses their own start time within this window — this avoids congestion at the stations and allows for an individual experience. Those who start early will have completed the stations by lunchtime and can enjoy the summer evening in the afternoon.

Live Music and Dancing on the Summer Evening

The festive conclusion adds a special touch: live music from 6:00 PM at the starting point — the dance floor opens, and the summer evening in the vineyards transitions into a relaxed evening of dancing. Those who wish can stay after the hike; many participants experience the full day: hike in the morning/afternoon, tasting in stations, dancing in the evening.
