Half marathon and 10-km run through Potsdam's UNESCO World Heritage Site: Brandenburg Gate, Babelsberg Palace, Marble Palace, Havel
If a half marathon in Brandenburg has its own distinct identity, it's the ProPotsdam Schlösserlauf. Since 2004, this annual popular run has led through the UNESCO World Heritage ensemble of Brandenburg's state capital—a route that is hard to match anywhere in Germany: Sanssouci Park, the Brandenburg Gate at Luisenplatz, Babelsberg Palace, and the Marble Palace are stages of a route that combines sport and culture.
The 21st Schlösserlauf offers two distances. The half marathon (21.1 km) starts at 9:00 AM at the Sportpark Luftschiffhafen, and the 10-km run starts at 9:20 AM. The time limit is 3 hours for the half marathon and 2 hours 40 minutes for the 10-km run. A maximum of 5,000 starters will share the two distances.
The route leads from the Sportpark Luftschiffhafen through the park and the city—past the Brandenburg Gate (Luisenplatz), through Sanssouci, further across the Havel crossings to Babelsberg Palace in Babelsberg Park, and to the Marble Palace on Heiliger See. The routes are designed so that the most important World Heritage sites appear along the way—a kind of moving city tour.
Entry fees are tiered: Half marathon €40–€60 (depending on registration phase), 10 km €30–€45. Plus a €5 deposit for reusable dishes for the half marathon. The package includes timing with chip, race number, starter pack, unisex performance shirt, finisher medal, and (for half marathon runners) a pasta party voucher. Minimum age: 16 years for the half marathon, 12 years for the 10-km run (in accordance with German Athletics Federation guidelines).
Potsdam, with its palaces and parks (Sanssouci, Neuer Garten, Babelsberg), has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1990. The Schlösserlauf uses this cultural density as its unique selling point. The event is organized by the Stadtsportbund Potsdam e.V., with ProPotsdam, a municipal housing association, as the main sponsor and namesake. For many runners from Brandenburg and Berlin, the date in early June is one of the highlights of the sports calendar.
The 2026 edition will follow the proven route through the World Heritage ensemble: from Sportpark Luftschiffhafen past the Brandenburg Gate (Luisenplatz), through Sanssouci, past Babelsberg Palace in Babelsberg Park, and the Marble Palace on Heiliger See. The exact route will be published by the Stadtsportbund Potsdam a few weeks before the start.
