Maria Vesperbild is a pilgrimage site of great appeal and one of the most important Marian pilgrimage sites in Bavaria. It is located about 1 km southeast of Ziemetshausen on the B 300 and belongs to the municipality of Ziemetshausen in the district of Günzburg in Swabia, state of Bavaria. Several hundred thousand pilgrims visit annually.
The pilgrimage season extends from spring to autumn. It traditionally begins with the old patronal feast of Sorrows' Friday. Throughout the months, numerous pilgrimages, services, devotions, and processions take place, many of them organized by parishes and groups from all over Bavaria and beyond.
The pilgrimage church is open daily from 7 a.m. to 8:15 p.m. Maria Vesperbild is not only a destination for major pilgrimages but also a place for quiet devotion. The combination of popular piety, tradition, and the special atmosphere of the place makes it a spiritual center of Bavarian-Swabia.
The 2026 pilgrimage season at Maria Vesperbild opened on March 27, 2026, with the old patronal feast of Sorrows' Friday and extends into autumn. Among the outstanding dates is the multi-day Ettal Pilgrimage, a walking pilgrimage from Maria Vesperbild to Ettal, taking place from May 8 to 14, 2026, starting at 6 a.m. on May 8. The highlight of the year is the High Feast of the Assumption of Mary on August 15, 2026, with a solemn Pontifical Mass and a subsequent candlelight procession. Throughout the entire season, numerous other pilgrimages, services, and devotions take place. Every year, several hundred thousand pilgrims visit the Swabian pilgrimage site in the district of Günzburg, state of Bavaria.
