Patronatsfest Hüttstadl
Traditional Patron Saint's Festival of the Shooting Club for Saint Vitus in the Fichtelgebirge
2026
About Patronatsfest Hüttstadl
Patronatsfest Hüttstadl — edition 2026
The Patronatsfest 2026 opens on Friday, June 19th, at 7:00 PM and concludes on Sunday, June 21st, 2026. The Hüttstadl/St.Veit 1921 e.V. shooting club organizes the festival independently with the support of the municipality of Fichtelberg.
The chosen date is close to the feast day of Saint Vitus (June 15th). This calendrical alignment with the patron saint's day model is typical for Catholic Bavarian patron saint festivals. In the Fichtelgebirge, Saint Vitus is historically the patron saint of miners — an identity that the Patronatsfest in Hüttstadl traditionally upholds.

Hüttstadl/St.Veit Shooting Club since 1921
The Hüttstadl/St.Veit shooting club was founded in 1921, during the interwar period of burgeoning Bavarian club life. The double name »Hüttstadl/St.Veit« combines the geographical origin (hamlet of Hüttstadl) with the patron saint (Saint Vitus). The choice of Saint Vitus as patron saint is rooted in the region's mining tradition: Saint Vitus is traditionally the patron saint of miners in the Fichtelgebirge.
Saint Vitus and the Fichtelgebirge
The Fichtelgebirge has been shaped by mining for centuries: ore, tin, and silver were mined here. The miners invoked Saint Vitus as their patron saint, which is why he is still venerated in many Fichtelgebirge communities today. The Patronatsfest in Hüttstadl honors this heritage in a village club festival.
Three-Day Festival Weekend
The Patronatsfest spans three days, with each day starting at 7:00 PM. Festival evening with a marquee on Friday, ceremonial act and shooting club program on Saturday, festival service, morning pint (Frühschoppen), shooting festival highlights, and festival conclusion on Sunday. Friendly shooting clubs from the Fichtelgebirge and the Bayreuth district participate — clubs from Bischofsgrün, Mehlmeisel, and Warmensteinach are typical.
Hüttstadl and Fichtelberg
Hüttstadl is a small hamlet in the municipality of Fichtelberg, which, with about 1,700 inhabitants and situated at an altitude of approximately 720-800 meters, is one of the highest municipalities in Upper Franconia. The municipality is located in the heart of the Fichtelgebirge — one of Germany's most beautiful low mountain ranges, known for Schneeberg (1,051 m), Ochsenkopf, and extensive forests. Here, mining heritage, winter sports tradition, and intact club culture converge.
