Open Mill Day

The German Mill Day takes place nationwide every year on Whit Monday. The aim of the event is to bring the old craft of the miller back into public awareness and to preserve historic mills as technical monuments. The Klockenhagen Open-Air Museum near Ribnitz-Damgarten also participates on this day and opens its mill to visitors.

The Post Mill from Groß Ernsthof

The focus is on the post mill, which originally came from Groß Ernsthof and was rebuilt in the museum. On Mill Day, it can be visited all day; if there is enough wind, the mill turns its sails. Ongoing mill tours explain the functioning of the windmill and the craft used for centuries to grind grain into flour.

Museum Village with 18 Villages

The Klockenhagen Open-Air Museum is a five-hectare museum village where historic buildings from 18 villages in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern have been brought together – farmhouses, barns, craft buildings, and the mill itself. Mill Day is integrated into the extensive event program that the museum offers from April to October, making Whit Monday a worthwhile destination.

Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Vorpommern-Rügen

Klockenhagen is a district of Ribnitz-Damgarten in the Vorpommern-Rügen district, near the Baltic Sea coast. Mill Day combines monument preservation with a popular festival and vividly conveys how important wind and water mills once were for life in the countryside.
