Pilgrimage and Kirchweih on the Feast of the Assumption
The Wallfahrts-Kirchweih Heldmannsberg is a traditional festival in Heldmannsberg, a district of the municipality of Pommelsbrunn in the Nürnberger Land district, Middle Franconia, Bavaria. The village is situated in the charming landscape of the Hersbrucker Alb. The pilgrimage to the Wallfahrtskirche Mariä Himmelfahrt has a long tradition dating back to the late 17th century.
Celebrations are held around the Feast of the Assumption on August 15th. On this day, the pilgrimage to the Wallfahrtskirche takes place, with believers from the region making their way to Heldmannsberg. The close connection between the religious feast day and the subsequent Kirchweih is characteristic of Franconian customs.
The pilgrimage on August 15th is followed by several Kirchweih days: a communal beef meal, the raising of the Kirchweih tree, and finally, dancing around the tree at the Gasthaus Zum Schottental. These customs define the Franconian Kirchweih festival and foster community spirit in the village.
The Wallfahrts-Kirchweih Heldmannsberg combines lived piety with village customs and is an example of the vibrant Kirchweih tradition in the Nürnberger Land region. For the municipality of Pommelsbrunn, it is a fixed date in the summer event calendar.
