A Musical Journey Back in Time in the Castle Cellar

The Ostalgie-Abend has been a firm fixture in Wasserschloss Mellenthin's February program for years. In the historic dining hall of the Renaissance moated castle on Usedom island, Duo Grauer November transforms a winter evening into a journey through the popular music of the GDR – from Karat and Puhdys to local hits, singer-songwriters, and songs that accompanied an entire nation.

Tancred Schmidt and Lothar Merz form the duo Grauer November. The two musicians perform the songs live with vocals, guitar, and keyboard sounds – not as a karaoke show, but as a curated concert that gains depth through their own introductions, little anecdotes, and background stories. The concept appeals across generations: older people sing along, younger people discover a musical culture that is less present today than it deserves to be.

Castle Atmosphere on Usedom

Wasserschloss Mellenthin, a Renaissance building surrounded by a moat, houses its own brewery and is a popular venue for weddings and events in the Vorpommern-Greifswald district. February is the off-season on Usedom – ideal for a quiet evening in one of Pomerania's most extraordinary castle complexes.

Take the UBB (Usedomer Bäderbahn) from Züssow to Stolpe, then a bus or taxi to Mellenthin. By car via the B110 / B111.
