Three days of music, games, and culinary delights in the Iserlohn district of Letmathe-Stübbeken
The Stübbeker Dorfsommer is the annual local festival of the Iserlohn district of Letmathe-Stübbeken. The event is organized by the volunteer-run Dorfgemeinschaft Stübbeken (Stübbeken Village Community), a typical local association that combines traditional festival culture, community life, and neighbourly encounters. Iserlohn is the largest town in the Märkischer Kreis in the northwestern Sauerland (state of North Rhine-Westphalia); the incorporation of Letmathe in 1975 united the formerly independent town with the city without losing its village structures.
The Dorfsommer runs from Friday, June 19th to Sunday, June 21st, 2026. The venue is the Dorfplatz Letmathe-Stübbeken (Letmathe-Stübbeken Village Square). The programme is designed for all age groups:
Exact times and acts will be published by the Dorfgemeinschaft Stübbeken (dorfgemeinschaft-stuebbeken.de) and the Heimatverein Letmathe (Letmathe Local Heritage Association).
Letmathe-Stübbeken is located in the western part of the city of Iserlohn, at the transition from the Ruhr area to the northwestern Sauerland. The region is characterized by low mountain forests, the Lenne and Hönne rivers, and numerous caves (e.g., Dechenhöhle) – a traditional hiking area. The village identity of the districts around Letmathe (Stübbeken, Dröschede, Reh) lives on through local heritage associations, shooting fraternities (Schützenbruderschaften), and festivals like this Dorfsommer.
Unlike commercially organized city festivals, the Stübbeker Dorfsommer is a format supported by associations for residents. Here, the local shooting club serves its own pea soup, the fire department runs the children's programme, the heritage association displays traditional costumes and old photographs – and all helpers are neighbours. Anyone looking for an insight into the real village culture of the Sauerland will find an un-staged example here.
The detailed programme follows the proven pattern of previous years: Friday opening, Saturday family and dance programme, Sunday morning pint and festival closing. Current acts and times at dorfgemeinschaft-stuebbeken.de.
