Atmospheric non-commercial Christmas market around Haus Letmathe on the 3rd Advent weekend
As the third Advent approaches, the Heimatverein Letmathe transforms the historic Haus Letmathe moated castle complex into one of the most atmospheric Christmas markets in the Märkisches Sauerland. From December 11th to 13th, 2026, the market opens its gates in the park and the interior rooms of the house — in close proximity to the Kiliansdom in Iserlohn-Letmathe.
What sets this market apart from the competition: It is non-commercial. Instead of large sales stands, the focus is on handmade crafts, jewelry, ceramics, floristry, wood decorations, book art, needlework, as well as baked goods, jams, and liqueurs from volunteer vendors. The character is intimate, personal, far from mass production.
This year's motto follows the established line: „Christmas Songs, Christmas Fairy Tales, and Waffles“.
Haus Letmathe is an old moated castle complex, with origins dating back to the Middle Ages. Today, it houses the Heimatverein and serves as a cultural space. The building, with its park, hall, library, museum, vaulted cellar, and tower, offers a unique backdrop for the Christmas market. The nearby Kiliansdom (St. Kilian) enhances the atmosphere — on Christmas Eve, a traditional tower brass concert takes place here.
Letmathe is a district of the forest city of Iserlohn in the Märkischer Kreis (North Rhine-Westphalia, Sauerland). With around 28,000 inhabitants, it forms an independent town center with a train station, shopping street, and historical substance. Letmathe is also known for the Dechenhöhle, one of Germany's most beautiful dripstone caves.
Three days of Advent atmosphere at Haus Letmathe: handicrafts and needlework in the Clara-Deneke-Saal, the library, and the museum, plus a cultural program in the vaulted cellar and the tower. Mulled wine, stollen, and punch accompany visitors throughout the 3rd Advent weekend.
Free admission. Donations for the Heimatverein are welcome.
Letmathe train station (RE16 / RB91 from Iserlohn, Hagen, Dortmund), then approx. 5 min. walk. By car: A45 exit Hagen-Süd, then B7 towards Iserlohn / Letmathe. Parking in the town center.
Free admission. Donations for the Heimatverein's association work are welcome. Goods from exhibitors at daily prices.
Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning are the quietest times — ideal for exploring the individual rooms of the house in peace. Those who want to experience the vaulted cellar by candlelight should come for the program in the late afternoon.
