A School Becomes a Christmas Village

Eppelborn is located in the Neunkirchen district, in the middle of the Saarland hill country, a down-to-earth Saar community with an active club scene. The Koßmannschule is one of the oldest schools in the municipality and a local landmark. Its historic schoolyard is transformed into a lovingly staged Christmas market every December.

The Format

Unlike the large city center Christmas markets, the Eppelborn market is a one-day event, held on a Saturday in December from 4:00 PM to 11:00 PM. This concentration on a single evening is what gives it its special charm: those who come, come with family, friends, or neighbors, stay for several hours, and the schoolyard becomes one large meeting point.

Saarland-Alsatian Cuisine

The culinary theme is classic Saarland with a subtle Alsatian touch:

• Flammkuchen and spring rolls
• Goulash soup, bratwurst, meatloaf
• Crêpes in various versions – sweet and savory
• Feuerzangenbowle, apple-cinnamon liqueur, classic red and white mulled wine
• Children's punch and hot chocolate for the youngest guests

Music from the Clubs

The musical accompaniment is provided voluntarily by Eppelborn clubs: The Instrumentalverein Eppelborn, the Gesangsverein Wiesbach, and the Vogel Music School provide the evening ambiance starting around 5:00 PM – a program that consistently emphasizes the community character of the market.
