The Gaumen- und Gurgelfest Eppelborn is held in the Bubach-Calmesweiler district of the municipality of Eppelborn (Neunkirchen district). The name promises what the festival delivers: enjoyment for the palate and joy for the throat, three days in a row, on the central village square, from 6 PM to 1 AM each night.

The Barrel Tapping Ceremony

As with any proper beer festival, the Gaumen- und Gurgelfest begins with the Fassbieranstich (barrel tapping ceremony). The mayor or an invited guest of honor taps the first barrel – ideally in a few strikes, as every unnecessary strike means a round for the guests. The ritual is staged with Saarland-style charm and marks the start of three days of beer enjoyment.
