Traditional November Kirchweih in Lower Franconia's Wartmannsroth
The Kirchweih in Wartmannsroth is one of the most traditional village festivals in the district of Bad Kissingen. It takes place every year on the weekend around the first Sunday in November and lasts for three days. The festival is closely linked to the church's patron saint and is supported by the local youth club and the Kirchweih society.
The central figures are the village's 'Burschen' (young men). They carry out the 'Kerwe' – an old Lower Franconian custom where a green wreath, a bottle, and a cake are buried at the 'Tränk' spot and dug up again on Kirchweih Saturday. In Wartmannsroth, the tradition is maintained in a contemporary way: on Sunday, one of the Burschen recites the 'Kirmesspruch', a humorous and satirical speech about the village events of the year, in front of the fire station.
Saturday begins with a celebratory church service at 5:30 PM, followed by festive activities with Franconian specialties. On Sunday, guests and Burschen meet at 1:00 PM at the 'Zum Landgraf' inn, before the Kirmesspruch is read at 1:30 PM in front of the fire station – complete with a coffee stand. Monday concludes with the traditional ham meal starting at 5:30 PM.
Wartmannsroth, a community of around 1,700 inhabitants in the Rhön foothills of the Lower Franconian district of Bad Kissingen (Bavaria), preserves an important piece of Bavarian cultural history with its November Kirchweih. The Kirchweih (from 'Kirchweihfest', Middle High German 'kirchwîhe') originally commemorates the consecration of the parish church and remains a central element of identity in the Franconian region to this day.
From Saturday, November 7th, to Monday, November 9th, 2026, the municipality of Wartmannsroth in Lower Franconia's Bad Kissingen district will celebrate its traditional Kirchweih. The program follows the established structure of recent years: a celebratory church service on Saturday evening, a convivial gathering and Kirmesspruch on Sunday afternoon, and the ham meal on Monday evening.
The festival is organized by the Kirchweih society and the Wartmannsroth youth club. The program combines religious observance, village traditions, and social gatherings. As in previous years, the Kirmesspruch – a satirical and humorous speech about the village's events of the year – is expected to be a highlight.
Admission is free. Food and drinks are offered at the 'Zum Landgraf' inn and at stalls around the fire station at fair prices.
