GartenLeben Moyland — edition 2026
Three days of Lower Rhine garden and art market in one of West Germany's most beautiful castle complexes. Lower Rhine Castle Garden as a Marketplace
On the 2026 Pentecost weekend — Friday, May 29, to Sunday, May 31, 2026 — Schloss Moyland in Bedburg-Hau will transform into one of the most beautiful market destinations on the Lower Rhine. The GartenLeben with Herb Garden Festival offers a three-day garden, art, and specialty market with over 120 exhibitors in the extensive castle gardens and courtyards.
120 Exhibitors — Garden, Art, and Delicacies
The market offerings are diverse and curated:
- Garden: Perennials, herbs, roses, fruit plants, garden tools, garden furniture
- Decoration and Arts and Crafts: Metalwork, sculptures, ceramics, wood carvings
- Jewelry: Goldsmiths, silversmiths, modern design
- Fashion: Natural fashion, leather crafts, Lower Rhine textile art
- Specialties: Cheese, honey, wine, spirits, Lower Rhine and Dutch specialties
The Herb Garden Focus
The festival is not called “with Herb Garden Festival” by chance — the herb specialization is part of its programmatic character. Herb and perennial exhibitors offer native wild herbs, medicinal herbs, Mediterranean herbs, and rare specialties. Accompanying lectures and workshops on herbal knowledge and their use in cooking and medicine are part of the format.
Schloss Moyland — The Moated Castle on the Lower Rhine
Schloss Moyland is a late Gothic moated castle from the 14th century, remodeled in Neo-Gothic style in the 19th century — one of the most impressive castle ensembles on the Lower Rhine. Today, it is home to the Museum Schloss Moyland Foundation, which houses one of the most significant collections of contemporary art in West Germany (focus: Joseph Beuys, whose work has a central home in Moyland). The combination of a historic castle ambiance and a contemporary art collection makes the location unique.
The Castle Gardens — Stage for GartenLeben
The castle gardens, with their formal parterres, sculpture park, linden tree rondel, and moats, form the stage for the festival. Exhibitors are spread along the paths and courtyards, and visitors stroll through a park that is art in itself — a rare combination of market and castle culture.
Admission with Wristband System
A pleasant feature: The admission ticket (€12 for adults) comes with a wristband and is valid for all 4 days — those who gather initial impressions on Friday can return on Saturday and Sunday with the same ticket. This makes the festival not a closed-off day event, but a three-day experience that can be visited at leisure.
Bedburg-Hau on the Lower Lower Rhine
Bedburg-Hau is a small municipality in the Kleve district on the lower Lower Rhine, near the Dutch border. Schloss Moyland is the region's major cultural landmark — both the museum collection and the castle park attract visitors from the Ruhr area, the Netherlands, and Belgium. The GartenLeben on the Pentecost weekend is one of the social highlights of the Lower Rhine early summer.
