48 hours of underground techno in the decommissioned nuclear power plant — three stages, camping, ages 18+
The Kalkar Nuclear Power Plant was originally intended to be the fast breeder reactor of the West German nuclear industry — built, never commissioned, eventually sold to a Dutch investor who transformed the decommissioned nuclear power plant into an amusement park: 'Wunderland Kalkar'. Today, carousels in the cooling tower, hotels in the engineering offices, exhibition halls where the reactor hall once stood. A bizarre, unique place — and for years the setting for festivals that use this history as a sound backdrop. REACTOR Festival is the electronic embodiment of this DNA: 48 hours of underground techno in a nuclear power plant that never radiated.
The program logistics are radical: doors open Friday, June 12th, 4:00 PM. They close Sunday, June 14th, 4:00 PM. In between, the program runs continuously — three stages, each with its own focus, each without breaks between sets. Those who want to experience the whole festival should plan sleep either at the campsite or in the neighboring hotel.
The confirmed Phase 1 lineup includes names from the European underground scene — including AKo̅SH b2b Amilli, ALIS., David Vunk, De Sluwe Vos, Vagabund, Trancemaster Krause. A selection that shows the niche REACTOR is aiming for: not a mainstream festival, but a weekend for underground connoisseurs and trance fans.
One of the strengths of the Wunderland Kalkar location: accommodation right on site.
This combination — festival and overnight stay in one area — makes REACTOR one of Germany's most convenient 48-hour festivals. No late-night drive on country roads.
Within the grounds, a food court with various vendors (vegetarian, vegan, international) and a viewing terrace serving as a resting place between sets — important for a 48-hour marathon. Drinks are available classically at the bars on site.
A welcome point: REACTOR is fully wheelchair accessible. The Wunderland Kalkar grounds offer accessible entrances to all stages and sanitary facilities — something that is by no means a given in the festival scene.
