Traditional folk festival on the river Paar in the district of Pfaffenhofen
The Paarfest in Reichertshofen is one of the oldest and most popular folk festivals in the district of Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm in the Free State of Bavaria. Named after the river Paar, which flows through the market town of Reichertshofen, the festival has been celebrated for decades over four days. On the Paarfest grounds, visitors can expect a festival tent with an adjoining beer garden and a versatile amusement park.
The biggest crowd-pullers are the spectacular raft jousting and the tub race on the Paar. In both competitions, teams compete against each other on the water – a wet spectacle with high entertainment value for the spectators on the riverbank.
Further highlights include the election of the Paarfest Queen, a children's parade, family and senior afternoons, church services, football matches, and musical performances. The festival is traditionally opened with free beer and the tapping of the first keg by the mayor after a parade from the town hall.
